Information on hiring a local part-time domestic helper
It is important for employers to be aware that foreign domestic helpers have a special visa, which only allows them to work for one employer/contract at a time. On this visa, they are only permitted to be employed under the Standard Employment Contract for domestic helpers and any part time work is not allowed.
Local domestic helpers can work without a domestic helper visa, either on a part-time or full-time basis, and employers are not required to provide accommodation.
Hiring of part-time domestic helpers in Hong Kong can be done through direct hiring or agencies. Usually, part-time workers hired through an agency can only assist in specific tasks such as cleaning service or childcare. Directly hired part-time domestic helpers can assist with a wider range of tasks in accordance to the agreed labour contract.
